June 11 is the last day for commercial property owners in the Donaldsonville Main Street district to apply for grant money to make upgrades and repairs to buildings, Downtown Development District Director Missy Jandura said.
The Redevelopment Incentive Grant program is through the Louisiana Main Street program, she said. The program offers $10,000 grants for major projects and $2,500 awards for minor projects.
Grants are available for either interior or exterior rehabilitation, she said. Interior improvements are limited to exposing, restoring, replicating, or enhancing the original interior architectural features, or the installation of fire suppression systems, she said.
To be eligible for Redevelopment Incentive Grant funds, a building must be located within the downtown Main Street district, be used for commercial purposes, and be at last 50 years old, she said.
In addition, the proposed work must be approved by the local Historic District Commission and the Louisiana Main Street office, while also conforming to the guidelines set forth by the secretary of the interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
Grants are reviewed by an independent panel of professionals working in historic preservation and related fields.
All grant applications must be submitted to the Donaldsonville DDD office, 215 Railroad Ave., Donaldsonville.
