ConnecTeens schedules summer registration

Volunteer Ascension’s ConnecTeens is holding its registration meeting at 6 p.m. May 10 at the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales. Youth ages 12 to 17 can register for summer volunteer opportunities, Volunteer Ascension Executive Director Sherry Denig said.

ConnecTeens is a Volunteer Ascension program that matches young volunteers with areas of need throughout the parish, she said.

The program was developed to provide volunteer opportunities to parish youth “in order to foster an ethic of community service that will last a lifetime,” she said.

“In its 11th year, by partnering with local organizations and agencies, ConnecTeens will be offering opportunities with — Special Tuesday Program, the Ascension Parish Library, the Fellowship Center, the Salvation Army, Volunteer Ascension’s School Tools and School Uniforms, just to name a few,” Denig said.

In 2011, local teens participated in 190 different projects, and they logged nearly 886 volunteer hours, she said.

“The continued success of the program is directly linked to the positive responses from the agencies that are served as well as the teens who participate in the program,” she said.
