Amateur boxing is coming to St. Amant Park on Saturday and Sunday.
The event, a qualifying tournament for the Junior Olympics program, is being hosted by the Southern Skill Boxing Club at 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at the park, 45404 Stringer Bridge Road, St. Amant, boxing club co-owner Connie Falcon, said.
Boxers from Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama and Texas are expected to compete, she said.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church’s annual Festival de la Prairie kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday on the church grounds on La. 73 in Prairieville.
The festival, which runs through Sunday, features food, music, games, carnival rides, a magic show, a race and silent auction.

A group from the Leadership Ascension 2012 Class is teaming with Izzo’s Illegal Burrito restaurants to collect new stuffed animals for children entering the state’s foster care system.
Izzo’s is offering a “buy one get one entree free” coupon to customers who drop off new stuffed animals at any of the restaurant’s four Baton Rouge locations on Saturday. The stuffed animal drive will benefit the Brave Heart Children in Need organization.
Leadership Ascension is a program sponsored by The Ascension Chamber of Commerce to assist in preparing emerging community leaders. Brave Heart Children in Need Inc. was founded in 2004 with the goal of improving the quality of life for children who are experiencing the emotional trauma of being removed from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect, according to a news release from Leadership Ascension member Frances Lewis.
Patrons can drop off the stuffed animals in return for the coupon at any of Izzo’s four locations in Baton Rouge.
