Three regional track meets and the Division I-Class 5A/4A State Girls Golf Tournament all begin on Wednesday at various sites around the state.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the host site for the Class 3A, Region 2 track meet. Tangipahoa’s Jewel Sumner High is the site of the Class 3A, Region 3 meet. Also scheduled is the Class B, Region 3 meet at Welsh High located outside Lake Charles.
St. Joseph’s Academy and two Lafayette schools, St. Thomas More and Teurlings Catholic, are among the teams competing in the Division I-Classes 5A/4A State Girls Golf Tournament at the Alexandria Golf and Country Club. The two-day tourney concludes on Thursday. Here is a breakdown:
Two regional boys golf tournament will be held in the Baton Rouge metro area.
Zachary High is the host for the Division I-5A, Region II tournament at Zachary’s Copper Mill Golf Club. Meanwhile, Parkview Baptist hosts the Division III, Region III at BREC’s Beaver Creek Golf Course in Zachary. Both tourneys are one-day events.
St. Thomas More won the regional title last week at LSU with SJA and Teurlings also advancing to Alexandria.
Taylor Thompson of St. Joseph’s, and STM’s Lauren Aillet both shot 76 at last week’s regional to claim top honors. New Iberia’s Emily Pellegrin and St. Louis Catholic’s Olivia Hansen both finished at 82; Teurlings’ Hilary Washington carded an 84.
CLASS 3A, REGION 2: Field events begin at 1 p.m. at ULL and running events are set for 6:30 p.m.
Abbeville, North Vermilion and West Feliciana are among the girls teams to watch; Franklin, WFHS and Erath are expected to lead the boys teams.
Parkview Baptist’s Morgan Schuetz has the top entry marks in the 800 meters, 1,600 and 3,200 to help lead the girls entrants. Erath’s Caitlyn Domingues has the top marks in the 100 and 200.
Trey Cazabat (shot put, discus) was a double winner for the WFHS boys at the District 6-3A meet.
Glen Oaks’ Johnta Hebert won the 200 and 400.
CLASS 3A, REGION 3: Field events are set for 3:30 p.m. at Sumner. Running events are scheduled for 6 p.m.
Port Allen swept the District 7-3A titles last week and will be among the teams to watch. Donaldsonville’s Devon Breaux won all three jumps events last week, while Port Allen’s Darian Claiborne won the discus, shot put and javelin. Donaldsonville’s Ka’Lynn Jupiter (100 and 300 hurdles) and Port Allen’s Rhecie Lee (high jump, long jump) were among
the girls double winners last week.
CLASS B, REGION 3: Action begins at 1 p.m.with field events at Welsh, with running events set for 4 p.m.
Hosanna Christian leads the local contingent. Last week Laticia Watson claimed Overall Outstanding Performer in the girls 8-B meet by winning the long and triple jumps, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
Madison Prep’s Michael Burns and Demetrius Blanton were top field performers for the boys.
Hosanna’s Dedrick Jones was the top field performer.
