Kaylea Danielle Magee will end her reign as Miss Gonzales Jambalaya Queen on Saturday when a new queen is crowned in the annual Jambalaya Festival Association pageant.
Before she gives up her title, Magee will welcome more than 30 queens from around the state for a Queens Day Event in Jambalaya Park. The pageant starts at 7 p.m. in the Gonzales Civic Center.
“It is hard to believe that it has been one year since I was crowned the 2011 Miss Gonzales Jambalaya Queen,” Magee said. “Over the past year, I have enjoyed the opportunity this title has given me to travel around our wonderful state representing and promoting the city of Gonzales and the JFA.
“Of course, my most treasured responsibility as Miss Gonzales Jambalaya Queen has been serving as queen over the 44th Annual Jambalaya Festival last Memorial Day Weekend,” she said.
The Jambalaya Festival Association has hosted the festival since 1967.
The festival is a fundraiser for the JFA, allowing the group to “serve others through various fundraising activities needed in our community throughout the year,” she said.
This year’s festival is May 24-28 near City Hall in Gonzales.
