Ben Sandmel, author of “Ernie K-Doe: The R&B Emperor of New Orleans,” a biography about the colorful singer and recording artist, will talk about the new book and sign copies from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Historic New Orleans Collection, 533 Royal St., New Orleans.
K-Doe is best known as the singer of the 1961 No. 1 pop and rhythm-and-blues hit, “Mother-In-Law.” He and his wife, Antoinette Dorsey Fox, achieved notoriety in the 1990s when they opened their Mother-In-Law Lounge. An unconventional music venue, the lounge served in large part as a one-man hall of fame dedicated to K-Doe, an especially outlandish New Orleans personality and entertainer.
