ALBANY — A Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputy on Wednesday shot and killed a man who threatened to kill himself and brandished a handgun at authorities near Albany, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responding to an attempted suicide at 3 p.m. near 31000 Old Baton Rouge Highway found Freddie W. LeBlanc, 48, who refused to drop his gun after multiple requests, said Lori Steele, a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.
LeBlanc then pointed his gun at the officers, at which point deputies opened fire, Steele said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office is still investigating along with Louisiana State Police, Steele said.
