Careers at The Advocate

Politics and Government Reporter, full-time

Location: New Orleans

Want to cover America’s most interesting news town for America’s fastest-growing daily newspaper? The New Orleans Advocate is seeking a politics and government reporter. We’re looking for a veteran journalist who can handle a demanding mix of daily beat coverage and long-form enterprise. The ideal candidate would have an extensive background covering hard news and a proven track record of using public records and data to find hidden stories. A distinctive writing style is paramount, as is the ability to collaborate.

The New Orleans Advocate was created last year, and the staff is made up largely of veterans who left The Times-Picayune after its owners decided to decrease home delivery to three days a week. Our newspaper is owned in Louisiana, and circulation and advertising have grown rapidly, as has the size of our staff. We now boast about two dozen full-time editorial employees, most of whom have covered the New Orleans metro area for years. We are passionate about producing thoughtful, complex journalism both in print and online, and aim to become the premiere news source in South Louisiana. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
