News Intern Reporter


Job Summary

The Advocate, Louisiana's largest daily newspaper and a growing regional presence, is seeking a promising recent graduate for a full-time, two-year reporting internship in Baton Rouge. Responsibilities include online and print reporting of breaking news, especially on the police beat, doing general assignment reporting, and writing enterprise and feature stories. Drive and ability to write for the front page are essential. Night and weekend work required. Some experience writing for newspapers or other publications is required. Candidate must be able to provide samples of published articles (can be from college publications). Salary is competitive for entry-level reporting position.

We’re looking for a journalist who can handle a demanding mix of beat coverage and enterprise, with the drive to regularly land on the front page. Baton Rouge is a competitive news town, so reporters must juggle writing for online and print. Topics tackled by our Capitol News Bureau range widely, from the governor's office and legislative action to state prisons, higher education and federal issues. The job also includes campaign and election coverage of prominent state and federal officials.
