Pat Shingleton’s Weather News Sunday, June 23, 2013

The late T.G. “Teddy” Solomon complimented me over the years on this story.

As noted in a previous column, June 23 marks the anniversary of the first drive-in theater, built in Camden, N.J., in 1937. Teddy built the first drive-in theater in McComb, Miss., and wrote a book on his career.

In Ellwood City, Pa., we enjoyed Spotlight 88. Mom would prepare two shopping bags of buttered popcorn and thermoses of Kool-Aid. The feature one night starred Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan.

Early evening rain increased to thunderstorms, but the movie continued and with static from the window speaker, and Dad clicked on the wipers as we watched Tarzan between the flashes of lightning. Just as Tarzan was swinging through the jungle — a show-stopper. The rest of the story Monday. Fastcast: Thunderstorms.
