Not far from the Chechnya border, Sochi was known for its spas, palm trees and as a hotbed of Islamic terrorists. Presently, villages adjacent to the Olympic Park have no gas, no plumbing and little power. “NBC Nightly News” reports the locals have questioned the selection that has one main road and no winter resort. At $51 billion, the most expensive in Olympic history, Sochi has been converted into an Olympic Park with ice rinks and bookings for international events. Games success depends on the weather; Premier Vladimir Putin has ordered the stockpiling and storage of mountains of snow. Fastcast: Nice.
