Pat Shingleton for Sept. 11, 2012
Eighty-one days remain in Hurricane Season 2012. We’ve recorded 13 named storms, seven hurricanes and a major hurricane. Invest 91 L could be identified as Tropical Storm Nadine today. Preseason predictions included the team of Klotzback and Grey from Colorado State with 10 named storms, four hurricanes and two major hurricanes. The National Hurricane Center forecast nine to 13 storms, later adjusted from 12 to 17 storms, five to eight hurricanes and two or three major hurricanes. I previously noted Dale Link’s prediction that labeled Pecan Island to Surfside Beach, Texas, to Port Sulphur as the primary zone for a land-falling hurricane; Isaac met the criteria. After Katrina in 2005, he predicted another hurricane hitting the Louisiana-Texas border, which was Rita. Fastcast: A beauty.
