Christmas trees to be recycled
The city of Walker, the LSU AgCenter and volunteers from the Livingston Master Gardeners and Livingston 4-H clubs have joined together to offer residents and utility customers the opportunity to recycle their Christmas trees and help beautify the community.
Participants can drop off natural Christmas trees at the designated area in Sidney Hutchinson Park from Dec. 26 through Jan. 6.
All metal stands, tinsel, ribbons and other decorations should be removed prior to drop off. The trees will be mulched and used in Walker’s parks and organic landscaping projects.

Department moves
Walker’s Department of Public Works has moved into its new building on Ballpark Road.
The $474,000 facility includes a new office building and repair shop. Significant landscaping was done so that the new building blends into the surrounding neighborhood and beautifies the gateway to Sidney Hutchinson Park.
The building replaces the outdated facility on Stump Street, which has been sold to the Livingston Parish School Board. Duplantis Design Group drew up the blueprints, Blount General Contractors did the construction and Forte & Tablada did the engineering work.
The facility consolidates many more of the city’s services in a common location.
The site is home to the Walker Animal Shelter, the Purchasing Department and Walker Parks and Recreation.
