Applications accepted for toy program

Applications for the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office Christmas Crusade for Children will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 5 through Dec. 9 at the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Center, 29225 Woodside Dr., Walker.

Applicants will need to bring proof of birth for each child (0-12 years); proof of income for entire household; and proof of residency. Toys will delivered Dec. 16. The Sheriff’s Office will be collecting toys and monetary donations at the Walker and Denham Springs Walmarts and Bass Pro on Thursdays through Saturdays starting Saturday until Dec. 10.

Quilting classes

The Livingston Parish Arts Council will offer quilting course for students in grades sixth to adult starting Tuesday.

The course will include a series of three classes. One class in a series is $25 or the series of three classes is $60. The first class is quilt essentials — squares and rectangles. Participants will learn simple sew-cut and sew techniques that will make complicated looking blocks.

The second class is quilt essentials — triangles. Participants will learn the half-square triangle” that goes with squares and the equilateral triangle that goes with hexagons.

The third class will be quilt essentials, building and binding.

Class are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Dec. 3, and 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6, 7, 10, Pre-register by calling (225) 664-1168.

Medicare seminar

Peoples Health will host a Medicare seminar at the Hampton Inn, 201 Rushing Road West, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday, and at 10 a.m. Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. Call (800) 642-0662.

Holiday Chef’s Evening

Main Street Denham Springs will present their annual Holiday Chef’s Evening and Wine Tasting event from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Local chefs, located in shops in the Antique District, will prepare special foods. Wine will be provided by Republic National Distributing Company. Tickets are advance sales only and are $25 per person. They are available at Taste of LA Café, 105 N. Range Ave. in the Antique District in Denham Springs. Only 300 tickets will be sold. All proceeds benefit Main Street Denham Springs.

Walker Wonderland

Beginning Thursday, Sidney Hutchinson Park in Walker will feature a Christmas Wonderland, with more than one million colorful lights and inflatable and animated displays, city officials said. The park will be open nightly from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Dec. 30 for free walking tours. Free family-friendly holiday movies will be shown each night . Christmas in the Pines

Macedonia Baptist Church, 34685 La. 1036, Holden, will host its Third annual Christmas in the Pines at 6 p.m. Thursday. Participants can celebrate Christmas with music.
