Lafayette is at the center of the oil patch, and that reputation is enhanced by a group of students from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
The UL-Lafayette geology students won an international competition for determining where to drill — and the university is the first school to win the Imperial Barrel Award for a second time. A UL-Lafayette team also won in 2012 in the competition of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
The team competed against 122 schools from six U.S. regions and six international regions, and won $20,000 that will be applied to scholarships.
Congratulations to the winners.
