Our Views: Elections set for runoffs Our Views: Elections set for runoffs Advocate story Nov. 30, 2013 Comments Depending on where you live, elections are on the ballot today. There is a patchwork of tax elections and some runoffs from the October primaries for municipal and other offices in different parishes and cities. The biggest election is the runoff for a position as member of Congress from Louisiana’s 5th District. It covers much of north Louisiana, including Monroe and Alexander, but the district meanders down the Mississippi River, then across the northern parts of the Florida Parishes as far as the Pearl River. Two Republicans, Neil Riser and Vance McAllister, seek to fill a seat held by a Republican, Rodney Alexander. The latter resigned to accept a job in the administration of Gov. Bobby Jindal, thus setting up the special election in the 5th District. However, there also is a heated race for parish president in West Feliciana Parish, and two judicial runoffs in Orleans are also on the ballot. We urge voters to cast an informed ballot in the election.
