Our Views: Mandeville named eCity Our Views: Mandeville named eCity Advocate story Aug. 30, 2013 Comments We congratulate Mandeville for being honored as a Google eCity, the only community in Louisiana to get that distinction this year. The eCity Awards recognize the strongest online business communities in each state. The strength is calculated based on how much activity local businesses generate relative to population size. “Mandeville’s growth and innovation in e-commerce is an example that other cities across the state can strive to replicate,” said Scott Levitan, director of small business engagement at Google. Louisiana still lags behind much of the country in Internet connectivity, a key driver of economic development in the new economy. Prizes such as the eCity Awards are an obvious marketing tool for Google, but they also serve as a useful reminder that e-commerce is a growing part of the world economy. In order to prosper, Louisiana will also have to grow its future online.
