On the other end was a gentleman expressing concern that a particular word I was using in my forecasts and in this column needed his approval. As the conversation continued, he noted that copyright and trademark restrictions would apply and be enforced in my usage. He then asked that I explain my meaning of “Tabascoey.” I furthered that in “my” weather jargon, it described heat, humidity and “peppery” conditions. As the conversation continued and after numerous stories, and laughs, he identified himself as Paul McIlhenny. He gave me permission to use the “word.” Last night, after hearing of his passing, I took a moment to re-review “An Illustrated History of Tabasco” that Paul signed and forwarded to me.
