Residents interested in running for the offices of Sorrento mayor and chief of police as well as Town Council seats can qualify from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Feb. 14; and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 15 at the clerk’s offices at 815 E. Livestock show Hundreds of youth from across Louisiana will gather in Gonzales starting Friday for the 78th annual LSU Agricultural Center Livestock Show at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center. LSU AgCenter officials said they expect more than 2,000 4-H and FFA exhibitors to bring about 1,500 breeding animals, 1,600 market animals, 180 pens of broilers and 700 exhibition birds to the competition that runs through Feb. 16. Competitors qualified for the state livestock show by winning parish and district competitions around the state. Polar Plunge set The Fifth annual Special Olympics Louisiana Polar Plunge is set for March 2 at Cabela’s in Gonzales. At the annual event, volunteers agree to jump in the outdoor retailer’s pond to raise money for Special Olympics. Jumpers pay a minimum of $50 and are encouraged to raise as much money as possible through solicitation of pledges. Food and drinks will be sold to raise money the day of the plunge.
