Mitchell Jan. 19, 2013 Comments Beef and dairy cattle, goats, hogs, poultry and sheep will be on display at the Ascension Parish 4-H Livestock Show on Saturday. Judging will start at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales. In addition to the parish livestock show, the Ascension Parish 4-H annual Stick Horse Rodeo will be held Friday at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center’s 4-H building. Registration is at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 6:30 p.m. The show is open to youths 11 and younger. The stick horse rodeo has a $5 entry fee. Blood drive Saturday The St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department is holding a blood drive and jambalaya lunch sale Saturday to benefit Addison Englade, who was born Nov. 9 with neuroblastoma, a news release from the department states. The drive will collect blood to replace that used by Addison, the daughter of St. Amant head basketball coach Kristy Englade and Fritz Englade Jr., during the child’s monthlong stay at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, Fire Chief James LeBlanc said. The blood drive is set from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the department’s main meeting room at the Stringer Bridge Road station in St. Amant. Residents donating blood at the drive or the Ochsner Donor Center by Jan. 30 will be entered in a drawing to win two tickets to the Super Bowl, he said. Jambalaya plate lunches will be sold for $6 and proceeds will be donated to Addison’s family to help pay medical expenses, he said. The sale will be held through Saturday. ARC spokeswoman Cheryl Rice said most clothing will be 50 percent off the regular price. Proceeds from the store, at 108 E. The competition will be held at 1 p.m. at the St. Theresa Catholic School gym on Burnside Avenue. All participants must provide proof of age and written parental consent.
