Jones| Westside bureau Dec. 05, 2012 Comments West Baton Rouge Parish Council members Edward “Bob” Robertson and Charlene Gordon, along with the Families Accessing Communities Together Project, will be giving away toys to children as part of the “Let’s Go Shopping” Christmas Extravaganza from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. The toy giveaway will take place in the Port Allen Middle School gymnasium, located at 610 Rosedale Road. Children must be present to receive toys. There will also be door prizes and refreshments. Arbor Day Brusly invites the public to attend its Arbor Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Dec. 12, when live oak trees will be planted on town property behind the Lions Den. The ceremony is part of Brusly’s annual recertification to be named “Tree City USA.” In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place inside Town Hall. Refreshments will be served. Christmas Fest, parade The Plaquemine Main Street Program and We Are the Difference Inc. will present a Children’s Festival and Parade from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bayou Plaquemine Waterfront Park. Santa’s Children’s Parade begins at 3 p.m. featuring children riding in Christmas-themed carts along the route, which starts at Plaquemine Northside Fire Station on Jacob Street and continues to the Waterfront Park. Reflections of the Season The light display, “Reflections of the Season,” is open on the grounds of the West Baton Rouge Tourist Information and Conference Center from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Fridays and Saturdays, attendees may enjoy outdoor activities such as wagon rides, ice fishing and a snow patch. Inside the tourism center, there will be crafters, entertainment, special food vendors offering holiday delicacies and, of course, Santa Claus and his elves. Our generation The West Baton Rouge Museum invites the public to its exhibit, “Our Lives, Our Stories: America’s Greatest Generation,” which will run until Jan. 7. The exhibit explores the life arc of the World War II generation. On Sunday, at 3 p.m., the museum joins with LSU’s Division of Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising for an educational fashion show, “When and Wear: Threads of a Generation.” LSU students and professors are working with the museum to produce fashions inspired by the decades explored in the exhibit — 1910s through 1960s.
