Wednesday’s column recognized the Farmer’s Almanac and the forecast for Zone 5, which covers Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. Some preliminary meteorological model runs suggest sharply colder weather for our area near Dec. 17. This change will be felt in northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. The almanac suggests the same and where there may be limited accuracy within this time frame, other zones offered some interesting results. Zone 1 incorporates the Northeast, where the Farmer’s Almanac predicted “some snow” for the first of the month, which did occur. Almanac predictors were somewhat accurate for Zone 7, which includes California, with a prediction at the end of November that stormy weather and gales would hit the California coast. Fastcast: Slowly clearing.
