The city of Gonzales will hold its 21st annual tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Gonzales
Civic Center, 219 S. Irma Blvd.
Santa will be at the civic center to give gifts to all children in the fifth grade or younger, while hot chocolate and cookies will be served to everyone.
Jambalaya will be served by the Jambalaya Festival Association, while the Center Stage Performing Arts Academy will provide entertainment.
Girl Scout troops also will be on hand to spread good cheer.
The city also will host its annual Senior Citizens Christmas Party from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 11 at the civic center.
The party will feature Santa, music and holiday cheer, as well as a meal and gift
for each senior citizen present.
The Amazing Acro-Cats, one of only four performing house-cat circuses in the nation, will perform for three days next week in Prairieville.
Trainer Samantha Martin will bring the cats to i-Party Galvez, 17134 La. 44, where they will perform agility tricks such as pushing carts, riding skateboards, rolling barrels, ringing bells, walking tightropes and jumping through hoops.
The cats will perform two shows on Dec. 7 and Dec. 9 and three shows on Dec. 8.
The Rock Cats, a six-member feline band featuring live instruments, also will perform at the shows.
Show times are 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Dec. 7; 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 8; and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Dec. 9. Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 12 and under with proceeds benefitting Cat Haven Inc., a Baton Rouge cat shelter.
The third annual Jolly Jingles Holiday Market is coming Saturday to the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.
The market, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature 100 booths
selling a wide variety of items.
The event includes gifts to the first 500 shoppers, a free children’s zone featuring inflatables and Santa’s workshop, where children can write letters to Santa. Santa is expected to arrive at 1 p.m.
A winter wonderland will be filled with Christmas-themed inflatables.

Senior sock hop
The Ascension Parish government will host its annual Senior Citizens Christmas Sock Hop on Dec. 7.
The event will be held from noon until 3 p.m. at the Ascension Gym at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, 9039 St. Landry Road, Gonzales.
The parish began hosting senior sock hops each month in 2008, and the events have grown from several dozen people to several hundred in attendance.
The event is free and open to the public.
