Spirit of the Atchafalaya” will present a special bicentennial event documenting old-time traditions and folk life culture of Bayou Pigeon and swampland Cajuns. The programs are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Iberville Parish Bayou Pigeon Branch Library. The programs will include a PowerPoint presentation, photographs, printed material, illustrations, storytellers and music by Calvin LeBlanc. Autographed copies of the Bayou Pigeon book will also be available. Season of reflection The public is invited to attend the West Baton Rouge Convention and Visitors Bureau’s four annual “Reflections of the Season” lighting ceremony on Friday at the tourism center, 2750 N. Westport Drive, Port Allen. Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m. with the lighting ceremony beginning at 6:15 p.m. Dinner will be served. Reservations are required. Holiday open house The West Baton Rouge Museum is inviting the public to attend its holiday open house, Cajun-style Christmas event from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The event will feature hands-on craft activities and storybook readings featuring classic tales with a Cajun twist. Weather permitting, there will be old-fashioned pony rides for children. And back by popular demand, children are welcome to help Papa Noël find his mischievous elves hiding all around the West Baton Rouge Museum grounds. Christmas Fest, parade The Plaquemine Main Street Program and We Are the Difference Inc. will present a Children’s Festival and Parade from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Bayou Plaquemine Waterfront Park. Santa’s Children’s Parade begins at 3 p.m. featuring children riding in Christmas-themed carts along the parade route, which starts at Plaquemine Northside Fire Station on Jacob Street and continues to the Waterfront Park. The parade will begin at the front gate of the facility and travel down Legion Drive and through the St. Gabriel Heights subdivision. Crafts made by prison inmates will be available for sale in front of the prison from noon until 3:30 p.m. Bayou Christmas The Iberville Visitors Center will host “Christmas on the Bayou” on Sunday, at the Visitor’s Center near Interstate 10 at La. 77 in Grosse Tete. The Boat Parade starts at 2:30 p.m. Santa arrives at 3 p.m. There will be food and craft vendors, free entertainment for children and a fireworks show after dark.
