The 40th annual Rayne Frog Festival is scheduled for Nov. 7 through Nov. 11 at the festival grounds off Interstate 10 at Rayne exit 87.

The event features carnival rides, food, arts and crafts and music.

A frog racing and jumping contest is scheduled for noon to 2 p.m. on Nov. 10.

The contest is open to all age groups, and frogs are available for rent from the Rayne Jaycees.

The festival will close with a parade through Rayne at 3 p.m. on Nov. 11.

Book sale in Iberia

The Iberia Parish Friends of the Library’s annual “Booksale on the Bayou” is scheduled for this weekend at the Cyr Gates Community Center in New Iberia.

The sale opens on Friday with a “friends only” preview sale from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Anyone interested in joining can sign up at the door.

The sale is open to the general public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Self-defense class

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office will offer a free self-defense class for women ages 14 and older on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Pre-registration is required.

The class will he held at the Sheriff’s Office Training Center at 1815 Terrace Highway, St. Martinville.

Awards banquet

The League of Women Voters of Lafayette will host the group’s annual “Just Desserts Awards Soiree” from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Abacus in Lafayette.

The banquet is held to honor residents for significant contributions to the community.

Singing Christmas tree

Tickets are on sale for the First Baptist Church of Lafayette’s annual “Singing Christmas Tree,” which features the church’s choir performing a Broadway-style Christmas show from a 24-foot-tall “Christmas tree” stage decorated with 100,000 lights synchronized to the music.

Performances are scheduled for Dec. 7 through Dec. 10.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children and students.

Music in Crowley

The Whitewing All-Star Showcase musical show is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Nov. 10 at the Historic Rice Theatre in Crowley.

Performers include steel guitar player PeeWee Whitewing and fiddler Beau Thomas.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 years old and younger.

Bonne Chance is scheduled to perform Friday at Bach Lunch at noon at Parc Sans Souci downtown Lafayette.
