The banks of Bayou Francois in Gonzales will be lined with art and music Saturday and Sunday at the annual Awesome Arts on the Bayou Festival.

River Region Art Association’s two-day festival, which will held each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will include music, 80 booths with original and handmade arts and crafts, children’s activities, food and an art exhibit.

The festival booths and activities also will be set up in Jambalaya Park and at City Hall.

The weekend band lineup includes performances from the Hot Pepper Band, Bluegrass music from the Jemini Venture Band, and Americana and folk music from the Fugitive Poets.

Schools hosts fall festival

St. Amant Middle School will host its second Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the school, 44317 La. 429, St. Amant.

The festival will feature performances by the St. Amant High Gatorettes, Cinderella Scholarship Program queens, Gonzales and Lake middle school cheerleaders, St. Amant Middle School dance team and Griffin’s Academy of Martial Arts.

St. Amant Middle School students are planning a talent show.

Music, food, arts and crafts, games, photographs with characters, raffles, face painting, train rides and inflatables are planned for the festival, which is open to the public.

Cancer awareness event

The Community Sisterhood’s 10th annual Cancer Awareness program starts at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Geismar Community Center, 12060 La. 73, Geismar.

The event will feature a balloon launch to honor those who are fighting cancer.

Homebuyers workshop

Potential homebuyers can pick up tips on the process during two workshops planned by E Federal Credit Union.

The free workshop, “Home Buying 101: A Guide to Purchasing a New Home” will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at EFCU’s Gonzales Branch, 1508 S. Burnside Ave., and Tuesday at the credit union’s operations center, 10719 U.S. 61, Baton Rouge.

The seminar will answer questions and provide insight on a variety of issues in the planning, preparation and purchasing of a new home, a news release states.

Featured presenters include Kaci Stevens and Amy Edmonston, both with E Federal Credit Union and Carol Cotton and Janice Dubois, with Darren James Real Estate.

GOP roundtable planned

Area candidates, a tax proposition and constitutional amendments on the Nov. 6 ballot will be the focus of the Ascension GOP Roundtable sponsored by Ascension Republican Women.

The Roundtable is set for 11:30 a.m. Oct. 18 at Kamal’s Kafe, 13091 Airline Highway, Gonzales. Cost for the buffet-style lunch is $15.

The Roundtable is open to the public and guests are welcome.
