The Federal Emergency Management Agency has opened a second Disaster Recovery Center in Iberville Parish to assist homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained uninsured, or underinsured, damage to their homes or personal property during Hurricane Isaac.

Specialists from the state, FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will staff the center to answer questions and provide information on the types of assistance available.

The center is located at the Iberville Parish Utility Department, 59805 Bayou Road, Plaquemine. The center is open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Big Cajun triathlon

Registration is now open for the Big Cajun Olympic Triathlon 2012 in Pointe Coupee Parish.

The triathlon starts at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at the Morrison Parkway boat ramp. Participants compete in three outdoor recreational tournaments featuring swimming, biking and running.

Sweet potato, pecan sale

The Iberville Parish 4-H Foundation, sponsor of a Louisiana Sweet Potato & Pecan Sale, is accepting orders.

The foundation is offering box orders of 10 or 40 sweet potatoes for $10 and $20, respectively.

Three-pound bags of peeled pecans are available for $25.

Orders will be taken until Oct. 30 — no exceptions — and can be picked up on Nov. 7-8 at the 4-H office. To place an order, call (225) 687-5155.

Adventure workshop

The West Baton Rouge Parish Museum is offering a Family Adventure Workshop from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The workshop will include a guided tour of the “Mardi Gras Shipwreck” exhibit followed by a 3 p.m. screening of the film “Swiss Family Robinson.”

And on Oct. 17, author Cynthia Nobles will discuss during a noon lecture and book-signing event her new cookbook, “The Delta Queen Cookbook: The History and Recipes of the Legendary Steamboat.”

The event is free and open to the public as well.

Yearbook sale

East Iberville High School is selling vintage yearbooks from the following years: 1982, 1986, 1988, 1990, 2004 and 2009 for $10 each.

Calendar photos

The city of Plaquemine is asking residents to submit photos recording local community events as well as local historical photos for possible inclusion in the 2013 Plaquemine calendar.

Photographers will be given credit if their work is published in the calendar.

If you have photos from events such as a Fourth of July celebration or a Children’s Christmas Parade — or nostalgic photos from the past — drop them off at the Mayor’s Office in Plaquemine City Hall or email them to
ciofplaq@plaquemine.org.

The deadline is Oct. 19.
