Weather conditions cause postponements, higher prices and inconvenience. Felix Baumgartner’s space jump from 120,000 feet was aborted due to strong winds Tuesday. Felix may try again Thursday, depending upon a low pressure system over New Mexico causing strong winds in numerous levels of the atmosphere. Record warmth and wintry weather last spring compromised the U.S. apple crop. Frozen blossoms in April cut the crop by 80 percent in Michigan and 90 percent in California. Apple prices could hit $1 a pound. From scarcity to more than enough, the Klamath River in California has made a comeback, especially for Chinook salmon. A lengthy battle between fishing interests, farmers and hydroelectric companies and a 2002 fish kill cut yields for the Yurok tribe of Native Americans. This year, 880,000 fish will be harvested.
