Pat Shingleton for Sept. 21, 2012

Two weeks ago, I noted September is when The Farmer’s Almanac hits the newsstands. I reviewed the publication Thursday, noting our “zone,” incorporating New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, is calling for possible tornadoes in Oklahoma by Sunday. Squalls are expected in Texas with unsettled weather in our area at the end of the month. The almanac boasted a “rather remarkable forecast for October 28-31, 2011.” Its prediction for the Northeast included “copious rain and higher elevations experiencing snow.” Heavy rain is predicted for our area in mid-October. On Page 164, you’ll notice the story of Julien Poydras, entitled “The Peddler Philanthropist,” authored by our own Ed Cullen. Many of Ed’s essays are featured in his book, “Letter in a Woodpile.”

Fastcast: Delightful.
