Bo Stepp, of Central, says, “My wife and I were watching the movie ‘Tower Heist,’ starring Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy and Alan Alda, on HBO the other night when I heard a very familiar tune in the background.

“During a scene where they are lowering a Ferrari out of the window of a skyscraper during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, I faintly heard the LSU band playing in the background.

“My wife didn’t hear it, and told me I just had pre-football season hallucinations.

“We watched the credits, and sure enough, the LSU band was listed.

“I normally love it when I’m right, but my excuse of being hard of hearing when my wife tells me to do something has now been compromised.”

A gift for Mom

“My grandson Patrick proved that some things are better left unnoticed.

“While eating lunch at Rotolo’s Pizzaria on Perkins Road Sunday (and enjoying the wonderful service by Christiana, one of my favorite students), Patrick walked over to his mom, my daughter, to show her a ‘bo-bo’ on his toe.

“He then reached down, picked off a piece of his toenail, and laid it on the table for mom to see!

“Kinda put a momentary damper on the delight of the meal. …”

Dressed for success

After a reader asked why Les Miles wears a jacket at every game regardless of the weather, we heard from John Baumann, of Orlando, Fla., who steered us to this answer on TigerDroppings.com:

“Coach Miles wears the same outfit for every game so that his players will always know how to find him on the sidelines.”

(So if you don’t care for the purple jacket and white hat — tough.)

Johnnie C. offers us an Isaac hard-luck story:

“After power outages for three days off Bayou Paul in Iberville Parish, I called my parish councilman to see how he fared.

“His lights were also still out.

“I told him the only thing I saw as of Friday with ‘Entergy’ written on it was my electric bill.”

A Bama welcome

Joan Hall says, “Last week with Isaac coming and my mother on oxygen and needing power 24-7, my sister made plans to take us far away from the storm.

“She chose the northern part of Alabama — first Birmingham, then the little town of Cullman, where we met the nicest people.

“When they found out we were from Tiger Country, getting our mother away from the storm, they could not have been nicer — especially when we talked football.

“They said they really think we have a fine coach and a very good team, and told us they hoped we made it home OK.

“What nice people they have in Alabama, even if it is Nick Saban country.”

Creep of the week

Jeannie Williamson nominates for this dubious designation the cruel person who “threw a kitten out of a car on Burbank Drive one evening in the pouring rain.

“I was driving home after work when I saw something on the road move in front of my car. It was a kitten, about one month old!

“I slammed on the brakes and jumped out to try and catch him, but he ran up a crape myrtle tree before I could grab him.

“There was too much traffic for me to leave my car and go after him, but I’ve been looking in the same spot to see if he’s still there.”

For sale

Gray’s Creek Baptist Church, on La. 16 in Denham Springs, holds its fall garage sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Proceeds help the church’s seniors attend “Jubilee.”

Marian Baker doesn’t say so, but I’ll bet the Isaac doldrums had something to with the letter written by her granddaughter Paige Mulkey, 8, of Mandeville.

Paige wrote her mother:

“Hi it’s me Paige. Let me know when your nice mood gets back on, until then I will not talk or look at you, so when its back on you can only talk to me to say your mood is back on.
