‘Polos & Pearls’ shopping set Saturday

St. Francisville’s Main Street Merchants present “Polos & Pearls” starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, offering extended shopping opportunities in the downtown area’s shops.

Participating merchants will have various artists and musicians in their stores, while samples from local restaurants may be tasted along the way.

The Highlands Bank Trolley will provide transportation along the “Polos & Pearls” route with stops at designated spots near convenient parking.

Meet the docs

Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary will have a “meet and greet” session from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 30 in the hospital cafeteria offering the public an opportunity to meet the hospital’s new physicians.

The doctors are Stephen Jones, family practice; Samuel Field and Thomas Kang, general surgery; Pamela J. Parsons and Gregory Harris, psychiatry; Gregory Crenshaw, vascular surgery; and Joseph Nesheiwat, rheumatology.

Gardening classes

Feliciana Master Gardeners, the local chapter of an LSU Agriculture Center volunteer group, will conduct horticulture classes in the fall in St. Francisville. The volunteers work with school gardens, organize the Spring Stroll in St. Francisville, and help with other educational horticulture events in the area.

The class, taught by specialists and professors of the center, prepares new volunteers. The cost for the course is $175, and classes will be held all day on Fridays, Sept. 21 through Nov. 16.

InterClub group meeting

The InterClub Council of Baker will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Baker City Council chambers to consider adding a term of membership and meeting attendance requirements for voting on the “citizen of the year.”

Landowners’ meeting set

The West Feliciana Parish Economic Development Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 30 at Fire Protection District 1’s headquarters in Hardwood for people owning land on U.S. 61 between Thompson Creek and La. 66, as well as landowners on La. 10 between U.S. 61 and the Audubon bridge.

Retired teachers meet

The East Feliciana Retired Teachers Association will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the School Board office in Clinton for an introduction to new parish school Superintendent Henderson Lewis Jr., a talk by Shekinah Muhammad about being arrested at school for registering to vote and a discussion of retired educator James Francis Hunt’s new novel.

Free prenatal class

Lane Regional Medical Center has a free prenatal class at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the hospital’s staff development classroom, offering an overview of what to expect for the soon-to-be mom. Registration is required; call (225) 654-5263.
