Job fair set for Aug. 15  at Lafayette Cajundome

The Lafayette Economic Development Authority will host a job fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Cajundome Convention Center.

The job fair, which will include seminars on job-seeking skills, is free for job seekers and pre-registration is not required.

More than 90 employers have signed up to participate.

Job seekers should dress professionally and bring copies of their résumés.

Downtown plan info

Residents are invited to an open house Aug. 14 to learn about planning efforts for the future of downtown Lafayette.

The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Acadiana Center for the Arts downtown.

Residents can meet consultants who are working on the planning project and discuss an initial list of key downtown development issues that might be addressed in the plan.

Night out against crime

The Lafayette Police Department and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office will hold a “Night out Against Crime” from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the main pavilion at Girard Park.

The event will include music, food, games and displays by local law enforcement and fire agencies.

The “Night Out” is part of national event designed to heighten awareness of crime issues.

Golf fundraiser

The Arc of Acadiana will hold its annual “Charity Golf Classic” fundraiser Oct. 26 at the Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette.

The entry deadline is Oct. 5.

The group is seeking food and drink tent sponsors.

Genealogy workshop

A workshop to explore genealogy resources at the St. Martin Parish courthouse is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 29 at the Acadian Memorial on South New Market Street in St. Martinville.

The workshop is free, but participants should call (337) 394-2258 beforehand if they plan to attend.

Tax help

The Louisiana Department of Revenue will offer a free business seminar on sales tax issues at 2 p.m. Aug. 15 at the agency’s office at 825 Kaliste Saloom Road in Lafayette.

Mystery theater

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana will host its annual “Murder Mystery Dinner” fundraiser Friday and Saturday the Cajundome Convention Center.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar and silent auction.

The dinner and performance begins at 7:30 p.m.

The cost is $100 per person or $700 for a table of eight.
