Grab your fishing poles and head out to the Ascension Fair Association’s first free “Let’s Go Fishing” day on Saturday at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center pond.

Firefighters selling roasts
Firefighters are known for their cooking talents and the members of the Gonzales department will be showing off their expertise during a “Best Butts on Da’ Bayou” fundraiser on June 29.
Members of the Gonzales Firefighters Association are cooking Boston butts for their annual fundraiser to benefit the Gonzales Fire Department.
The group is selling fully cooked Boston butt roasts for a $30 donation. The firefighters sold more than 350 of the pork roasts last year.
The roasts will be available for pickup at 11 a.m. on June 29. To order your roast, call (225) 644-5307.
New senior program set
The Ascension Council on Aging and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at LSU are seeking public opinion and participation in the formation of a new local program.
The institute, also known as OLLI, is a member-governed organization dedicated to the lifelong learning of people 50 years and older, according to a news release.
The group is in the process of establishing an Ascension Parish chapter and would like to know what classes are of interest to residents, the release states.
The classes would be held at the Gonzales Senior Center in the fall.
Volunteers will be needed to form committees and plan classes.
OLLI is holding a workshop at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Gonzales Senior Center, 526 S. Irma Boulevard.

St. Amant reunion
July 1 is the last day to register for the 25th reunion of the St. Amant High School Class of 1987.
The event will be held Aug. 18 at the Grand Pavilion in Gonzales. The cost of attending the reunion is $40.

Cheerleader camp
Ascension Catholic High School’s cheerleaders are hosting a mini cheer camp Monday through June 29 in the school gym.
The camp sessions will be held from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Tennis clinic
Women and girls age 14 and older are invited to register for the Hope Youth Development summer tennis clinic.
The lessons will start at 5:45 p.m. July 3 at the Prairieville courts.

A program also will be held at the Gonzales tennis courts starting at 7:30 p.m. on July 5.
