The public is invited to join the next game of petanque, a French bowling game, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Girard Park.
A group of petanque enthusiasts, La Boule Cadienne de Lafayette, sponsors the games every fourth Sunday of the month on the north end of the park near the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Alumni House. Games will be: July 22, Aug. 26, Sept. 23, Oct. 28, Nov. 25 and Dec. 23.
Paddle trip presentation
A presentation on the Atchafalaya Basin will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Pack & Paddle, 601 E. Pinhook Road.
The event features Atchafalaya Basinkeepers Dean and Cara Wilson and photographer Greg Guirard. Details on three paddle trails, as well as take-home maps will be shared.
Genealogy workshop
Isabelle Pointer, archivist of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, will conduct a genealogy workshop on the church’s research policies and how to search church records at 10 a.m. June 27 at the Acadian Memorial, 121 S. New Market St., St. Martinville.

Junior League grants
The deadline for the Junior League of Lafayette’s grant program is July 12.
The organization will award 24 grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to nonprofit groups with community projects scheduled between Sept. 15 and April 30. Priority is given to projects linked to Junior League’s focus on: the general well-being of women and the healthy development of children; developing women’s potential; and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Vermilionville camps
Vermilionville will offer two educational summer camps in July for students in grades 3-5.
Both half-day summer camps, History Comes Alive and Nature Comes Alive, will be offered July 16-20 and July 23-27. Session times are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Activities celebrate parks
The Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department’s “Parks and Recreation Week” is July 2-6 with activities at parks across Lafayette.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 2, it’s “Pickleball Day” at Thomas Park and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 3 a ping-pong tournament will be held at Dupuis Center. A senior bingo is planned 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 5 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center and a Kids Carnival will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 6 at Girard Park.
