Firemen’s Parade to roll in Addis
The Addis Firemen’s Parade, marking the 50th anniversary of the Addis Volunteer Fire Department, is set to roll at 11 a.m. Sunday.
There will be festivities including music, food and games at the Museum Park after the parade disbands.

In honor of the event, the town declared Sunday as “Donna Mae Songy Fitzgerald Day,” to honor the organizer of the original parade held in 1963.
History through art
Enjoy the “History through Art” lecture and art series this weekend at Curves in Plaquemine, 58928 Belleview Drive.
Western clothing is encouraged on “Western Night” to be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday at the fitness center.
African attire is welcomed during the “Ancient African History” program to be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
A pianist and a cellist
An evening of classical music will be offered in New Roads during the “Hungarian Rhapsody” event at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Julien Poydras Museum and Arts Center in New Roads.
German cellist Martin Merker and Hungarian pianist Anna Adamik will perform.
The public is encouraged to meet the musicians at a reception following the performance. Refreshments will be served.
A one-woman show
The public is invited to a free showing of the off-Broadway show, “The Resurrection of Harriet Tubman for Literacy,” a one-woman performance by Melissa Waddy-Thibodeaux at 2 p.m. Sunday at the West Baton Rouge Museum.
Her portrayal of Harriet Tubman has been recognized as a National Parks Service regional program in its interpretation of the underground railroad prior to the outbreak of the Civil War.
The performance will be followed by an interactive discussion with the audience.
The museum also is hosting the “Furnishing Louisiana: Creole and Acadian Furniture 1735-1835” lunchtime lecture with art historian Pat Bacot at noon Feb. 16.
Bear challenge
Holy Family School will host the “Bear Challenge” on Saturday featuring a 5-kilometer and a 1-mile run/walk, a jambalaya cook-off and volleyball and horseshoe pitching tournaments.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Holy Family Athletic Department.

A Mardi Gras dance
The New Roads Lions Club invites the public to attend a Mardi Gras dance from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at the Scott Civic Center in New Roads.
Tickets cost $25 for couples and will be sold at the door.
Hoop shoot
Children between 8 and 13 years old can participate in the Plaquemine Elks Lodge’s “Hoop Shoot” free-throw competition Feb. 18 at Plaquemine High School.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. Youngsters must have proof of age to compete in the free competition.
