Looking North for Feb. 2, 2012

Bethany kids recycling electronics

Fourth- and fifth-grade students at Bethany Christian School, 13855 Plank Road, Baker, will accept old computer and electronic gear for recycling from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the school.

You may drop off computer hardware, computer accessories, laptops, telephones, telephone systems, security systems, cellphones, DVD movies and video games, mp3 players, game systems, digital cameras, digital video recorders and stereos to help the students learn to be good stewards over the environment.

They ask that no television sets or appliances be delivered, however.

The electronics will be refurbished, and low-income families will be able to purchase them at a low cost. Information on Baker’s curbside recycling also will be presented.

Other events planned on Feb. 11 are a tour of the Louisiana Native Guards battlefield at Port Hudson State Historic Site and “Slavery Unbound” at Audubon State Historic Site, a program focusing on the African-American experience in Louisiana during the Civil War.

Rosedown will have a program on African and Caribbean influence in Southern antebellum cooking on Feb. 18.
