Drought assistance

Livingston producers have until Jan. 30 to apply for the drought assistance program, the Livestock Forage Disaster Program.

The program provides compensation to eligible livestock producers who have suffered grazing losses for covered livestock on land that is native or improved pasture land with permanent vegetative cover or is planted specifically for grazing. The grazing losses must be due to a qualifying drought condition during the normal grazing period for the parish, officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Livingston-East Baton Rouge Farm Service Agency said.

Producers should contact their local office at (225) 664-1430, extension 2, or visit the office, 2191 Tower Drive, Denham Springs, for requirements and to apply.
