Outreach hosts MLK program
Club Outreach will sponsor its annual Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. program Monday at the Club Outreach Center, 30277 Sunset St., Walker.
The march will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the program at 10 a.m. The guest speaker will be lawyer Raymond Simmons. Walker High School and LSU graduate Chris Hawkins will be honored. Hawkins plays for the Tennessee Titans.

Winter Variety Show
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host its annual Winter Variety Show at 5 p.m. Jan. 28 at First Baptist Church in Denham Springs.
Entertainment will be provided by singer Andy Ray Perry, who is returning to his roots as a country and pop vocalist after a two-year stint as an award-winning Elvis tribute artist; the King Creole Orchestra led by Robert Reynolds; the Smith Family Band; Jimmy Little, 2006 Cajun Humorist of the Year; Jeremy Downey, former music leader with the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries; Tracy Ardoin, Debra Hull and Jennifer Edgar as The Andrews Sisters; and Michelle Morgan.
New to the show is Carlton Jones, guitar virtuoso and vocalist in the style of Chet Atkins; Mercy’s Bridge, a classic old-time gospel group; and the Heart Voice Trio, known for its tight vocal harmonies and pop style. The youngest performer is 11-year old Jake Kinchen, a sixth grader at Juban Parc Junior High School, who will perform the National Anthem on his harmonica.
Tickets are $10 at the door or in advance at Sport-N-Center in Denham Springs, Live Oak Pharmacy in Watson, John’s Pharmacy in Albany, and City Hall in Walker. Doors will open at 4 p.m. and snack items will be sold.

LIGO Science Saturday
The Livingston Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory will host “Get Inspired” from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 21 at LIGO Science Education Center. The topic will be motion. Those attending the Science Saturday are invited to participate in various activities that will teach them about motion. Attendees can also watch the “Frame of Reference” movie.
At every Science Saturday, visitors are invited to tour the facility and talk with a LIGO scientist or science specialist. In addition, visitors can explore and interact with more than 40 LIGO science concept exhibits, including 12 new exhibits related to sound that were added in July. The event is free.

Community store
The Women’s Ministry of Blood River Baptist Church in Albany has opened a community store and closet for the needy. The store carries personal hygiene products, canned foods, clothes, shoes and more. The store is located at the church, 31138 Pea Ridge Road. The store will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays only.
