Computer, GED classes offered

East Iberville High School is offering free computer training for adults on Mondays and Tuesdays.

There will also be preparation courses for people interested in getting their General Educational Development certificates.

The GED classes will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The computer classes will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Register for academies

The Iberville Parish public school system is taking applications for the Math, Science and Arts academies in Plaquemine and St. Gabriel.

The deadline to submit applications, available at the schools, is Jan. 23.

There will be an open house at MSA-West in Plaquemine at 6 p.m. Jan. 18, and an open house at MSA-East in St. Gabriel at 6 p.m. Jan. 19.

Museum open house

The public is invited to the Iberville Museum at 6:30 p.m. Monday for refreshments, book signings and a chance to meet area authors and an area artist.

Life and landscapes

The West Baton Rouge Museum is encouraging the public to attend the free opening reception for its “Life and Landscapes along Louisiana Highway 1” exhibit from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The exhibit displays artwork created by members of the Associated Women in the Arts who were inspired by the historic highway that traverses the state.

Maringouin and MLK

The public is invited to participate in a march and church program celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Saturday in Maringouin.

The march down Landry Street and past Bayou Maringouin begins at 10:30 a.m. The church program, “A Salute to Dr. King,” begins at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Center.

WBR and MLK Day

The West Baton Rouge Parish Mass Choir will hold its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade at 1 p.m. Saturday beginning at William & Lee Park.

Hoop shooting change

The Plaquemine Elks annual “Hoop Shoot” free throw competition for youngsters scheduled for Saturday has a new location.

The free event will be held at the Math, Science and Arts-West Academy on La. 1 in Plaquemine.

The event is open to all children between 8 and 13 years old. All participants must have proof of age to compete.
