About the service
While there is no charge to search The Advocate archive, you will be charged for viewing the complete text of articles. This fee-based archive includes every story, column or feature published since 1986, that was written or prepared by an Advocate staff writer or special writer. Graphics, maps, charts or photographs are not included but are noted. Real Estate Transfers, Weddings, Engagements, and Obituaries are included.
Corrections and clarifications are included as stand-alone stories and as attachments to the original story. Advertisements including classified and display advertising, comics, and wire stories (Associated Press, etc.) are not included. If you plan to use the newspaper archive search frequently, you may wish to review the billing options and set up an account.
Establishing an account makes it easier to use the archive, and through volume discounts, may be more cost-effective. If you cannot find what you need from either theadvocate.com or the fee-based archive, you can visit the East Baton Rouge Parish Library on Goodwood Blvd. A complete set of microfilm of The Advocate, Morning Advocate and The State Times is available at the Library.
